Healing and wellness are a holistic, total lifestyle issue. Fasting, and other practises, can be health-promoting aspects of God’s promised wellness for all people …not just for Jesus Followers… because the activities that promote wellness are part of “God’s Natural Law”, like gravity.
I call Isaiah 46:4, the “biblical, wellness hope”, particularly for all Seniors” whom are true Jesus Followers, only. It complements the promise of 3 John 1:2 for the same group of all ages!
I love the new VOICE translation of Isaiah 46:4:
“And when you are old, I will still be there, carrying you. When your limbs grow tired, your eyes are weak, and your hair a silvery gray, I will carry you as I always have. I will carry you and save you.”
Why You Want To Read On!
Following our separate, near-death experiences at the same time, my wife, Karen, and I have been live food (aka raw food) vegans for over 15 years.
There is a well-known example of live food veganism, plus its positive effects, in the Bible. Some Christians mistakenly call it the “Daniel Fast”. Correctly, it should be called the “Daniel Lifestyle” because it only involves fasting from one nutritionally-unnecessary food group in the modern diet …animal and fish flesh.
Fish, meat, and their byproducts are totally unnecessary for health and optimum nutrition. Statements to the contrary are simply untrue marketing and biased mistraining of health care professionals and politicians whom are badly manipulated by the lobbies of the fishing, meat and dairy industries. Live food contains everything necessary for healthy human sustenance …as God originally designed.
What’s The So-Called “Daniel Fast”?
The concept of the so-called Daniel Fast is outlined in the Old Covenant of the Christian Bible in the Book of Daniel. The story’s background is that Daniel and three of his friends had been sent as slaves to Babylon from Israel, along with about 10,000 of their fellow Hebrews.
This happened about BC 600 when King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon conquered Judah, the northern part of modern Israel. The young men were teenage members of the Israelite nobility at the time of their removal from their homeland. (2 Kings 24:13-14)
Because of their attractiveness and robustness, Daniel and his three friends were put into a key-servant, “training program” in the Babylonian King’s Court. Part of the program was learning Babylonian culture, laws, and practices.
In some respects, the eating habits of the Babylonians were contrary to the Israelite Law of Moses. As a result, Daniel asked if he and his buddies could be excused from eating meat. The Babylonians, like many ancient peoples, ate meat which had first been sacrificed to their demon gods …a practise that was abhorrent to Hebrews. The young men wanted, and asked, to be fed only live, non-rich, and simple food, plus only water to drink. (Daniel 1:8-15)
The misnamed, but periodically popular, Daniel Fast of some Christian and Jews today, therefore, is eating only fruits, vegetables seeds, nuts, and grains …uncooked whenever possible… for a limited amount of time while abstaining from dead animal tissue and their byproducts. Some Christian raw food vegans believe that the live food and meat byproduct requirements of Daniel fasting are implied by the Old Covenant story and its context.
What’s The Daniel Lifestyle Got to Do With Veganism?
Karen and I, like many other people among both Jesus Followers, plus nonChristians, follow a ‘pure’ Daniel Lifestyle. We do so as a wellness enhancement “Eating Plan”. It’s NOT a diet approach any more than a real fast.
However, some Christians use our type of Eating Plan as a minimalist fast …instead of totally fasting from all food and non-water drinks. They also normally ignore the non-cooking component.
We agree that the New Covenant of the New Covenant Bible nowhere commands true Jesus Followers to observe any stipulated Eating Plan, or even fasting for religious reasons. What we eat and drink is a matter of total freedom when one follows Jesus. (Galatians 5:1)
Our Eating Plan is part of our overall, enhanced health and wellness lifestyle. We follow it, plus the related healing and wellness aspects of what we call our S-M-A-R-TLifestyle™, only because it is the perfect diet stipulated by our Creator for His perfect creation in Genesis 1:29.
You can read this Scripture in the graphic to your right. The picture in the background is an example of our main, evening meal.
We don’t cook our food because there is no evidence of cooking, or any variation from God’s “Genesis 1:29 Diet“, until after the flood during which “all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven . . . and the mountains were covered!” (Genesis 7:19-20)
The Flood was a very long time after creation. According to the suggested timelines in the interesting article here. According to its author’s demonstrated calculations, God flooded the whole earth, not a region, about BC 1650. Please note, during that extended period, Scripture also documents people as living extremely long, over 100 years, lives.

Your Core Wellness Challenge
The core optimum wellness question for wise people is simply one of obedience! It is do we choose, or not, to follow God’s perfect diet for his perfect creation which He has never modified nor rescinded? (Genesis 1:29)
Nonetheless, there is still more to disease than just a bad diet and lack of activity. Diet and exercise promotion haven’t put a dent in unwellness. Broccoli and Brussel Sprouts will never deliver you from fear. Drinking healthy water does not address your core problem of sin! Jogging, even 10K a day, will not deliver you from lust. Disease & unwellness are also spiritual. One’s spirituality must also be dealt with for full health and well-being! (3 John 1:2)
Disease flourishes in the presence of the absence of joy, depression, and sorrow! (James 1:2-8) And fear and faith each project into the future and command fulfillment! (Philippians 4:6-7 & Hebrews 11:1 & 6)
