On Judging Others

“Who Says We Are Never To Judge Others …NOT Jesus!”

Another Patton Associates S-M-A-R-TBriefing

Jesus commands we must not judge other Christians for their past or their motives (Matthew 7:1-2) but must judge their present behaviour in exhorting love! (1 Corinthians 5:11-13)

But a Follower of Jesus must NEVER judge the legal behavior of a non-believer in Jesus for either their past or present activities or comments.  (1 Corinthians 5:9-10 & 12)

Most Christians do not understand, correctly, what Jesus says about judging others.
Most Christians do not understand, correctly, what Jesus says about judging others.

However, most Christians non-biblically judge those they are supposedly to love into Jesus’ Kingdom. At the same time, many Christians sinfully let their co-religionists totally off the hook for both past and present behaviour.

Paul also discusses the need of the Body of Jesus to hold their Leaders accountable by judging them quickly, as a unique group, in 1 Timothy 5:19-20. Here again, most Christians are badly taught non-applicable, Old Covenant Scriptures which say we are not do so!

Please let me have your questions and comments about what you’d add to, or disagree with, about the above. Also, let me know how else I might be useful to you in any way?

Blessings in Jesus all …’till next we interact!

  1. I very much agree and have been working through some thoughts on this subject that I’m struggling to get coherent enough to post anywhere. Basically, I think you nailed it. We judge non-believers (and publicly shame, humiliate, etc) which we are not supposed to do, and then we turn around and dismiss Christians who are living in sin. Jesus came to save the sinners, of which all of us should be thankful for. Since we are sinners, and saved, why not share the love of Jesus with others? (rather than beat them up with piety?) Thanks for sharing. The only thing I might add is that Jesus was a great example of loving and accepting sinners, without accepting or joining in their sin. Christians seem to think we are to alienate the world from ourselves because of their sin. We are to look and act different than the world, but still be right in the middle of it sharing the love we have received.

    1. Thank You, Barry, for your very kind words. I don’t think anyone has ever told me before that something which I wrote had “nailed it”! 😜

I agree that your point would have made a valued addition to my piece …notwithstanding that I am already deservedly hard on some christians. Blessings Brother!
