On Watching A “Miniatur Wunderland”

There have been clips about this attraction over the past few years.  This wunderland / wonderland is still not finished. It is growing to a conclusion, however, because the creative team that drives it will soon run out of space at the current large location.

There are two brothers, in Germany. They had a wonderful model railway that was something to see. Their wonderland started as a place to display the brothers’ hobby creation.

The initial display grew massive.  It expanded by leaps and bounds as other enthusiasts with different skills joined the fun and word spread. Soon they also were joined by other ‘Model Railroad Clubs’ and a wide variety craftsmen.

Some were electricians, model makers, carpenters, computer programmers, plus many other creative people. The hobbyists’ wives would stop by to see what they were doing.  They usually brought them lunch.

Visitors started to ask if they had a snack bar. The Idea was planted.  And one thing led to another.

Three of the ladies had worked at a bakery. Some of the carpenters came and built a nice restaurant area for the bakery.  They added a  complete kitchen too.

If the fresh Coffee smell doesn’t get you. The bakery definitely will!

Then, one of the Breweries joined in support.  It furnished all of the tables and chairs, serving counter, etc. etc..

This wonderland is incredible.  It draws millions of all ages as the best known tourist attraction in Hamburg.

The latest finished area, costing €3M, is the airport. Planes look like they are taking-off, flying and landing. Computer controlled vehicles roar around acres/hectares of manicured space. Thousands of characters populate the display.

Enjoy your five minute viewing plus regain a bit of your young-at-heartedness!

  1. Wunderland is really very innovative. Just the other day I was watching a program in the BBC about Wunderland. Do you know that they are making Rome for their new addition?
    Thanks for the post!

    1. You are welcome, Dipyaman.

I did not know about the expansion to include Rome! That city was one of Karen’s and my favorite places to visit on our honeymoon …almost 50 years ago, now.

I had never heard of “Miniature Wunderland” until I received an email from a friend the day I posted the video. I was delighted and intrigued with the video because I learned most of what I know about electricity and electrical wiring from having built a, lighted 12’x 8′ toy train landscape as a young teenager … after my dad built me a table to put it on.

Blessings in Jesus’ name on you and all those you love!
